We had dinner tonight at La Voile, an upscale French restaurant in Brookline.
We ordered off the Prix Fixe menu, getting the La Salade de Betterave (mesclun and beet salad, goat cheese, haricot verts, candied pecan and balsamique vinaigrette)
and the Le Foie Gras (homemade foie gras terrine, fruit marmalade, toasted country bread) for appetizers.
The salad was just alright, while the foie gras was not bad, though a little small on the portion side.
For our main courses, we got the Le Vivaneau (seared snapper, over artichokes, roasted tomatoes, tapenade and pistou)
and the Le Canard (Roasted duck breast with coriander, sweet potato mousseline, spinach, oyster mushrooms and cherry chutney).
Pretty good, the fish being cooked perfectly, while the mashed sweet potatoes and cherries perfected the duck dish.
For dessert, we got the Frozen Fruit Cake Nougat
and the La Tarte Tartin (warm caramelized upside-down apple tart with vanilla ice cream).
The nougat was just alright, but the apple was a little too intense for my liking. Overall though, a pretty good meal to end the day.
