July 15th 2022: A Few Quick Hikes in Oxford, Charlton and Spencer

Today, I decided to go on a few quick hikes on the MidState Trail, first starting out with the Sacrarrappa Pond region in Oxford at the end of Lovett Road, where the path I took here is shown below in pink. This area is on private property though, so beware.

The view of the pond itself was obscured by tree cover,
although the wetland on the other side was a pretty sight.

My next destination on the trail was the Charlton Cow Tunnel area in Charlton, where the path I took on the trail from Boucher Drive and Old Worcester Road is shown below in pink.
The cow tunnel under Route 20 was interesting enough,

although the map was inaccurate for the other side of the trail, not going near the water body on the map at all.

Next, I headed into Spencer to check out Moose Hill Reservoir, which is on the trail at 504 Moose Hill Road opposite Sugden Reservoir.

Turns out I visited this place before a long time ago, mistaking it for Sugden Reservoir.

Instead of hiking there, I did one on the Spencer Depot Rail Trail, where the path I took from 75 South Spencer Road is shown below in pink.
The main water body was swampy, although with nice views of the hills in the distance,

but the other water body was nothing to look at.

For dinner, we decided to check out Double T's Tavern, a bar restaurant in the town of Marlborough,

getting the Steak Tip Sandwich (steak tips served with melted cheese and horseradish sauce)
and the Double T's Coconut Chicken Tenders.
The steak tips were burnt and hard to eat in a sandwich, but the chicken were actually really good and crispy, especially with the sauce. Overall, just alright though. With that, an end to a day of hikes in Oxford, Charlton and Spencer.

May 25th 2019: Half the Day in Rhode Island, Half in Connecticut

I started today in the town of Burrillville RI, visiting the beach at Pulaski State Park,
before going for a hike from there to visit the George Washington Wildlife Management Area. The paths I took here are highlighted in pink.
Okay looking covered bridge,
and the swamp was more like a lake.
Wilbur Pond was nothing much to see though.

After leaving the area, I ventured into Glocester RI,
Bowdish Reservoir
Lake Washington

where I trespassed accidentally on private property to get to Clarkville Pond from 57 Pulaski Road,
then went on another hike at Durfee Hill Wildlife Management Area, where the path I took is shown below in pink.
On an unmarked path off the main trail, there were nice views of Burlingame Reservoir at the dam area,
and of the water body downstream of it on the main path as well.
Leaving the area, it was on to another mini hike to the pond at the Hawkins Pond Town Forest from 2628 Putnam Pike.
Finally, it was time to leave Rhode Island, heading into Putnam CT,
Mary Brown Pond, 778 Providence Pike
Crossway Church
spending some time at Cady Pond at the junction of Cady Road and East Putnam Road
before heading into Killingly CT,
Killingly Pond
Alvia Chase Reservoir, 80 Pond Road
Middle Reservoir, 1450 Hartford Pike
Bog Meadow Reservoir,
1440 Hartford Pike
Union Baptist Church,
1369 Hartford Pike
Whetstone Brook Reservoir,
521 Valley Road
Elliotville Lower Mill
Chase Reservoir
Ballouville Pond,
720 Chestnut Hill Road
4 Ware Road
then Pomfret CT,
Most Holy Trinity Church
Christ Church
First Congregational Church

Abington Congregational Church
where I visited the Rectory School
the Pomfret School,
and the New England Laborer's Training Academy.
Next, it was on to the town of Hampton CT,
Hemlock Glen,
Old Kings Highway and Hemlock Glen Road
going on a hike at the H.E. Preston Sanctuary, where the path I took exploring the entire area is shown below in pink.
Nothing to see at either of the supposed viewpoints,
although I did find a bird's nest, which apparently had a cuckoo chick in it too.
At this point, I decided to call it a day for hiking, passing through Eastford CT
Frog Rock Roadside Park
Ashford CT,
Old First Magyar Reformed Church,
200 Ashford Center Road
even visiting the Charlton Sewing Center back in Charlton MA,
before heading into East Brookfield for a late lunch at 308 Lakeside, an upscale restaurant with a beautiful view of Lake Lashaway.
For food, I got the Seafood Chowder,
the LAKESIDE BURGER (Topped with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and onion rings)
and the Maple Pecan Pie.
Not bad actually, especially with a deal.

For dinner, we headed into Waltham for another go at Bonchon, this time getting Goose Island beer,
Small Wings (Half and Half Sweet Crunch and Soy Garlic),
and Bull Dak (Spicy chicken stir fried with rice cakes in fiery sauce, topped with thinly sliced scallions, onions and mozzarella cheese. Served with white rice).
The beer was not to my liking, while the plate of food was way too spicy for us to handle, with very few rice cakes. Guess they were running out. With that, an end to my day of sightseeing in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
