May 1st 2016: 2nd Day on Nantucket

We started out today in the downtown area of Nantucket, walking around to several points of interest
Francis Street Beach,
Francis Street and Washington Street

Old Mill

Summer Street Church
Old Coffin School
St. Paul's Church
Fountain, Main Street and Fair Street
Vestal Street Observatory
before settling for lunch at Met on Main,  an upscale place with a location in Natick that I have been to before.

We got the Jacques Burger (hash brown potato / bacon / Swiss cheeses / truffle mayo / buttered potato roll / fries),
and it was at this point that we realized we had a boat to catch, so I ran back to the hotel to pick up our luggage, and we ran all the way to the boat. Thankfully, we were still on time, although we had to sit outside in the cold. It was only then that I was able to savor my burger, which was actually pretty good, even though it was a little cold by then.

Back in Barnstable, we went to check out the Cape Cod Mall for a bit,

getting a Froyo-Nut from Sweet Kiwi,
which was absolutely horrendous as the donut itself was not fresh at all.

Along the way home, we decided to stop at Mango Tree, a Thai restaurant in Milford

for dinner, getting the Thai Fisherman’s Soup (Special Thai hot and sour soup with assorted of fresh seafood), which came in a cup,
and the Pumpkin Curry with Salmon (Thai Pumpkin curry in coconut milk with pumpkin, butternut&yellow squash, zucchinis, green&red peppers, and carrots).
Both dishes were pretty decent and flavorful, though still very Americanized, and nothing really special. With that, our holiday on Nantucket island came to an end.

April 30th 2016: The Nantucket Daffodil Festival

We made our way to the Hyannis Terminal early this morning, passing by the Bourne Bridge in Bourne.
After getting our tickets for the Nantucket Ferry, we went to have breakfast in town at the Sunnyside Restaurant, a diner, getting a Buttermilk Pancake
and the Eggs Benjamin (two poached eggs served on grilled bagel, topped with sauteed mushrooms and melted cheese).
Interesting concept, but Eggs Benedict are still better in general.

The ferry ride itself to Nantucket was pretty uneventful,
and as we were famished after the trip, we stopped by the Nantucket Hotel
for a meal at the Breeze Bar and Cafe inside.

We got the New England Clam Chowder
and the Mushroom Flatbread (wild foraged mushrooms, creamy truffle béchamel, gruyere).
Both dishes were delicious, though a little pricey/

After checking into our hotel, the Cliff Lodge,

we went into the downtown area,
Town Hall, 16 Broad Street
checking out the Daffodil Festival which was going on there,

We headed to the Petticoat Row Bakery, a dessert place nearby for a quick bite,

getting a Fruit Danish/which was pretty tasty.

We then went to borrow our bikes from Nantucket Bike Shop, and used them to head toward Bartlett's Farm,

where there was a Daffodil Flower Show going on.

Never knew there were so many different classes of daffodils, based on the size of the flower cup, color, types of petals etc.

From here, we cycled the dirt road to get to Ladies Beach at the end of Bartlett Farm Road, The views were beautiful this clear and sunny day/
The ride back was long and arduous,
Loines Observatory
with us having to walk our bikes half the time through the sand, and along narrow busy roads.

When we finally reached the downtown area, we decided to get dinner at Station 21, a pretty small but upscale place.

We got the Grilled Shrimp Romesco (garlic aioli, leeks) appetizer,

the Braised Lamb Shank (Olive Yukon Mashed and Grilled Plums)for an entree

and the Guava Parfait for dessert.
The sauce combination for the shrimp was excellent, the spicy romesco going together with the creamy aioli. The lamb was fall of the bone tender, the olive mash a delight together with the grilled plums, and the guava dessert was amazing as well. A really good meal to end a day of tiring cycling.
