April 22nd 2018: Lunch with Mom at Penang, Boston

Today, we decided to have lunch at Penang in Boston, a Malaysian restaurant in the Chinatown area which I have been to several times in the past. This time around, we got the Beef Rendang Rice,
the Baby Oyster Omelette with Egg (pan fried baby oyster with egg),
the Chendol (green pea flour stripes and sweet red beans topped with shaved ice and coconut milk),

the Kang Kung Belacan (sauteed convolus chinese watercress with spicy shrimp paste sauce) and Hainanese Chicken with Rice (chicken rice subtly flavored with steamed chicken served with chef's special soy sauce).
Of the dishes, only the egg was a letdown, being totally different from what we expected, just an omelette and nothing more. A pretty good meal otherwise.

After lunch, we also stopped by the Corner Cafe Bakery nearby at 62 Harrison Avenue

for some Walnut Cookies

and Portuguese Egg Tarts.
A nice spring day out in Chinatown with mom.

April 21st 2018: Cambridge School of Culinary Arts

The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts was holding an open house today, so we decided to go check it out. As can be expected, there were tons of delicious hors d'oeuvres to be had.
There was a demonstration on how to make gnocchi,
where we were allowed to participate, rolling the dough,
then cutting it up into small pieces.
The dough pieces were then placed on an interesting gadget called a gnocchi board
and rolled off using a thumb before putting them into a pot.
The instructor seemed to put a lot of salt everywhere, but somehow the final product was just perfect.
The next demonstration was on making macarons. After making the shells,
It was time to put on the cream, indenting the shells first
Sinful though. Glad my other half figured out where she went wrong making macarons.

April 20th 2018: Dinner at Meze, Worcester

We decided to have dinner at Meze in Worcester tonight because they have 5 buck appetizers from 4 to 6 pm. We got the Melitzanosalata (Grilled eggplant, whipped with roasted fresh garlic, olive oil and vinegar.),
the Saganaki Kefalograviera (Lightly battered, pan fried Kefalograviera cheese), the Pork Souvlaki (Grilled, skewered marinated pork and a side of Tzatziki)
and the Beef Souvlaki (Grilled seasoned skewered beef tenderloin, served with Tzatziki).
The cheese was simplistic, being just pieces of melted cheese, though tasty with texture like mozzarella. The skewers were not bad too, though on the small side.

Guess this is what you get for cheap stuff.

April 17th 2018: Dinner at Nuovo, Worcester

Today, we decided to get dinner from Nuovo, an Italian restaurant in Worcester which I have been to in the past.
We got the Filetto alla Griglia (Tenderloin of Beef marinated with fresh herbs and garlic  accompanied with Ortega rice and white bean salad. Side of shallot cabernet sauce)

which came with a Chop Salad (Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, olives and Feta cheese with Greek home – made dressing).
The steak was pretty good, even when medium well, while the salad was just that. Still a pretty good meal here though.

April 16th 2018: Lunch at Evviva Cucina, Marlborough

Today, we decided to check out a new area in Marlborough with lots of new restaurants, choosing Evviva Cucina, a pretty nice Italian bar restaurant with other locations in Massachusetts as well.

We got a side of Mushroom Risotto (Cremini Mushroom, Parmigiano Brodo, Carnaroli Rice, Butter, Grana Padano) and the Shrimp Scampi (Black Tiger Shrimp, Garlic, Lemon, Fresh Basil, White Wine Reduction, Shaved JalapeƱo, Ricotta, Spaghetti).
A little salty for both dishes, but surprisingly tasty, especially the tanginess of the pasta dish. Way too small portions for what we paid though, although the two of us were sated after the meal.

Overall, way overpriced in my opinion.
