April 22nd 2017: Checking out Daffodils in Meriden CT

We drove all the way to the town of Meriden CT today to check out the Daffodil Festival going on at Hubbard Park, a pretty nice Park with hiking trails as well.

The Daffodil blooms were pretty nice actually,

but as it was raining,  we did not stay for long after checking out the tag sale,

Heading instead to the Westfield Mall nearby,

exploring the mall for a bit before heading Berlin CT
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Kensington Congregational Church

for lunch at the Baltic Restaurant in Berlin CT, a really nice Polish place which holds weddings as well.

We got the Herring (Sledzie, Marinated herring filet in onions and olive oil),
the Ukrainian Barszcz,
,
the Red Barszcz and Krokiety (Red Barszcz soup served with breaded crepes stuffed with meat),
the Bigos (Hunters Stew, Sauerkraut simmered with meat and kielbasa served with mashed potato),
.
and the Beef Rolades (Zrazy) (beef with spicy mustard stuffed with bacon, carrot, onion, pickle).
The raw fish was a little on the salty side, though not bad, while the sauerkraut was a little sour. The , soup was pretty good though, not being too sweet, and the potato pancake was pretty crispy as well, the beef being flavorful. The crepes were heavenly though, the layers thin yet fluffy.

For dessert, we got the Szarlotka (Polish Apple Pie),
a pretty good end to a good meal. Did not expect to find such a nice place in a small town.

From here, we passed through New Britain CT
Spanish American War Memorial,
655 South Main Street
on the way to Mill Pond Park at 123 Garfield Street in Newington CT,
where there is a beautiful natural waterfall.
We might come back here again in summer because of the ease of getting to this scenic place.

From here, we headed into West Hartford CT, checking out the Westfarms Mall, which is much nicer than the one in Meriden.
Finally, it was time for some food in Hartford CT,
G. Fox Building,
950 Main Street
Residence Inn Hartford Downtown
Hartford Trust Building
Christ Church Cathedral
One Corporate Center/Stilts Building
City Place

first at the M and M Bistro,

a nice bar restaurant located with the Hilton Hartford Hotel
We got the Asian Dumplings (chicken and lemongrass, with ginger slaw and soy chili sauce),
which would have been bland if not for the sauce, and pretty expensive too for just 6 dumplings.

Not sure I want to come back again.

Our final meal of the day was nearby at Siam Hartford, a Thai restaurant with decent decor.
We got the Duck Rolls (Oven roast duck, cucumber, scallion, carrot, ginger and mint wrapped in roti skin)
and the Rad Nah (Stir fried flat noodle in Thai gravy sauce with broccoli and Chinese broccoli with choice of meat).
The rolls tasted a little weird because of the ginger, while the noodles were nothing to speak of either.

A disappointing end to an other nice day of checking out daffodils in Connecticut.
