June 15th 2025: Second Time at Mamacitas, West Boylston

Today, while we had time, after passing through Milford,

Craddock Crewes Pond,
end of Wale Street

Littlefield Pond/Silver Hill Pond,
43 Fiske Mill Road

we went on a short hike at the Snow Family Conservation Area in Upton, where the path we took is shown below in pink.

Nothing special here, with many potential side trails to get lost on, although my little one got to learn about vernal pools.

after my little one's Minion dance performance, we decided to go to Mamacitas, a Mexican restaurant in West Boylston for dinner, this time getting the Mar and Tierra Tacos (steak and shrimp on corn tortilla with guacamole, cilantro sauce and cotija cheese),

the Tamarindo,

the Seafood Tacos (3 tacos with your choice of seafood, topped with mango or regular pico de gallo, cilantro, Cotija cheese and cilantro salsa.),
the Chicken Tenders (Three chicken tenders with fries on the side)
and the Bacon Avocado Ranch Burrito. (Chicken or steak with bacon, avocado slices, chihuahua cheese, lettuce and ranch dressing).
Pretty good from this place, although a little salty this time around.

August 25th 2024: Hiking in Upton and Eats in Milford

Today, we started out with a hike at the Peppercorn Hill area in Upton, this time entering from the end of Taft Street. The path we took this time is shown below in black.

Other than the views of the marshland

at the powerlines,

the trail was a little on the overgrown side, forcing us to backtrack the way we came. Will need to check out the Snow Family Conservation Area next time.

For food, we headed into Milford, first getting a Strawberry ice cream

and a Kid's Grilled Cheese and Fries.

from TJ Cafe and Games, a board game cafe in town.

Interesting place, although the oil for the food was definitely old.

Not satisfied with the meal, we decided to get more at the Oasis Patio, located at the Doubletree Hotel in town.
There was a band playing outdoors while I got the Legends Burger, which definitely comes from the Legends Sports Bar and Grille restaurant inside the hotel.
Really good though, like the pasta I had the last time we were here.

July 5th 2024: Killing Time in Northbridge and Upton

Today, while having some time to kill, I headed through Northbridge

Riverdale Pond, 50 Riverdale Street
to bring my little one to the playground

 at the Upton Community Center,

where the new Upton Public Library is also located.

For lunch, we decided to stop by Chengdu in Westborough, this time getting the Hot and Sour Soup,
the Stir Fried Vegs and Tofu (Vegetable Roll, Brown Rice)

the Taiwan Style Fried Rice Noodle
and the Chung King Chili Chicken.

Absolutely horrendous food, except the chicken, although it wasn't anything authentic either. Definitely not coming back again.

January 1st 2024: Checking Out Water Bodies in Upton

Today, after spending some time at Norcross Park in Grafton,

we decided to check out a few water bodies in Upton,
Taft Pond

Zachary Pond, 63 Glen Avenue
going on a hike from 119 Fowler Street to look for Davidson Pond, where the path we took is shown below in pink.

Not bad view of the pond, although I think we took the side trail that was a private path.

The next hike we went on was at the Goss Pond Open Space. The path we took here is shown below in pink.

Scanty views of the pond itself,

and the views of West River were just so-so.
We even had to trespass on private property to get back to the road close to Great Lane. Definitely not coming back here again.

Overall, an okay day of checking out water bodies in Upton.

April 17th 2019: 118 Main Street Kitchen and Spirits, Upton

Today, we decided to have dinner at 118 Main Street Kitchen and Spirits, a pretty upscale restaurant in Upton.
We got the Rack of Lamb (Grilled, Lemon Rosemary Gremolata, Chianti & Port Wine Reduction, Creamy Risotto, Seasonal Vegetable)
and the Crab Cakes (Kimchi, Lemon Mint Crema).
Excellent food, coming from a place like Upton.

February 14th 2019: Chinese Takeout from Jade Garden, Upton

I decided to get Chinese takeout today, this time from Jade Garden, a Chinese restaurant in Upton,
getting the General Gau's Chicken, which came with Pork Fried Rice, Chicken Fingers

and Hot and Sour Soup.
The chicken fingers and soup were not bad, although the main dish was on the verge of being soggy, and the rice bland. Not coming back again for sure.

January 31st 2019: Burgers in Upton and Natick

For lunch today, I decided to head to Upton to eat at the Rose Garden Restaurant, which is more of a dive bar than a restaurant.
I got the only interesting thing on the menu, the Jalapeno Cheese Burger (fresh jalapeño melted in with the cheddar cheese and avocado),
which was pretty bland, although the fries were decent. Definitely not coming back again. Rose garden it is not.

Later in the evening, we took a cooking class at Sur La Table in Natick, learning how to cook with a salt block. Really a novelty more than a better substitute for granular salt. In order to use it effectively, it has to be either heated in an oven or stored in a freezer before use.

For the hot block, we cooked shrimp on it, which were pretty tasty in the end.
For the cold block, we made caramel peanut brittle,
which was pretty tasty and crispy at the end of the process.
We were still hungry after the class though, so we decided to go the Met Bar and Grill in the mall, which I visited once a long time ago.
This time, we got the Tokyo (avocado, muenster, pickled onion, sprouts, sticky soy, wasabi mayo) burger,
which was not bad with the mayo, except for the pickled onions, which were not to my liking.

Overall, not a good day for burgers.

December 14th 2016: Dinner at Red Rock Grill and Bar, Upton

I decided to check out the Red Rock Grill and Bar, a pretty popular bar restaurant in the town of Upton where I could only find seats at the bar area. I got the Red Bridge Beer & Smoked Jalapeno Braised Pot Roast (Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Carrots),
which would have been delicious with sauce, if only it did not become too salty way too quickly.

Oh well, maybe I might come back to try the other interesting stuff on the menu. Just maybe.
