November 10th 2011: "Almost Perfect", Boston Asian American Film Festival 2011

Tonight after work, I travelled to Cambridge for another meetup event, to watch the movie "Almost Perfect" starring Kelly Hu and including Edison Chen on the opening night of the Boston Asian American Film Festival 2011, at the Brattle Theater.

It was originally intended that we meet at Chipotle Mexican Grill at 1 Brattle Square, but since there are a lot of them in the Worcester area, I decided to try Casablanca, a Mediterranean restaurant/tapas bar, which is right next to the theater entrance, instead.

The interior decor was pretty nice, with me taking this picture from the bar of the reflection in the mirror.

Seeing that the entrees were a little on the pricey side, yet not too appealing to me, I decided to work on the appetizers instead, ordering a cup of potato, cheddar and bacon soup, Sari's Lamb, and Mussels with crostini and lobster salad, which were all delicious.

After my great dinner of appetizers which actually cost about the same as an entree, I went to Chipotle to meet up with everyone else, just to realize that there were only 2 other people there, mainly due to the rainy weather that evening.

We set off soon after for the theater nearby, and after a short wait with our small tickets, we were finally allowed into the quaint little theater, and 3 other people joined us there.

We were first treated to a Taiko drum performance by the Asian American group Gengki Spark. The movie came up next. to be honest, I was not expecting much out of the independent film, although it had famous stars like Kelly Hu, Edison Chen and Roger Rees, but by the end of the movie about a lady who is so overwhelmed by her family members who are overreliant on her that she is unable to find happiness for herself, I was thoroughly impressed by the depth of character that each of the family members portrayed. I highly recommend watching this movie if you ever get the chance to.

After the movie, there was also an enlightening Q & A session with the executive producer Jimmy Khu, one of the actresses Tina Chen, and the director Bertha Bay-Sa Pan.

With that, the night came to an end, and so did the rain. Even though there were not as many people as expected that came, I still had a great time with the people who did brave the rain. Till the next meetup then.
