February 3rd 2012: Having a Snack at Lee-Side Bar, Falmouth

Tonight after work, I was headed to Martha's Vineyard for the second time.  I was really early at the harbor in Woods Hole, Falmouth, but could not make it onto an earlier boat than the one I was supposed to be on. Having not had dinner yet. I was really hungry, but as I was going to be eating at my friend's place in a short while, I decided to look for something small to eat. At the harbor is a small bar restaurant called the Lee-Side Bar, located at 29 Railroad Avenue. Here I went once I knew I would be waiting for at least another hour, and after looking at the menu, I decided to get the Stuffed Quahog, a shellfish filled with Chorizo.

The quahog was pretty good actually, but it only made me more hungry. When i finally got on board the ferry, I decided to get a bowl of quahog chowder. It's a little different from regular clam chowder I guess, but not much, with quahg being a little chewier.

 

With that, I was quite full by the time I reached my friend's place, although we had avocado shakes made by her, which was actually really good, mixed with vanilla ice-cream and soy milk.  I'm definitely looking forward to continuing my sightseeing in Martha's Vineyard tomorrow.

January 31st 2012: Dinner at The Glass Onion, Falmouth

I drove straight from work tonight to the harbor in Woods Hole to pick up my friend, so we decided to have dinner in area. We decided on the Glass Onion, which unfortunately does not accept reservations, but there weren't much diners at 9pm on a Tuesday night anyway, so we were seated immediately upon entering the quiet and nicely decorated restaurant. After being seated at a nice table, we could not help but admire the romantic atmosphere around us.

After being told the specials, we decided to go with the waitress's recommendations for appetizers, ordering the Barnstable Oysters, which had bacon among the other delicious ingredients in the half shell, and the crab bisque. To top it all, we were also offered a complementary serving of the duck confit rillette.

For our main dish, my friend had the seafood risotto, while I got the Pan Seared Long Island Duck Breast. Both dishes were fantastic, but by then we were too full to finish the food, and had to take a doggie bag for both dishes.

With that, we headed back to my place for the night before going on a sightseeing trip tomorrow.

January 6th 2012: Riding the Ferry to Martha's Vineyard

Tonight after work, I went on a trip to Martha's Vineyard. In order to bring my car over the island, I had to make a reservation with Steam Ship Authority, which cost $101. The harbor is located at 1 Cowdry Road in Woods Hole in the town of Falmouth. I arrived early, so I decided to read my book in my car at the staging area. When it was time to go, they put my car in the side of the ferry for compact cars.

I decided to get out and walk around for a bit, and saw that they had external platforms with benches, which would be beautiful for scenery in the day time. Perhaps, someday I will come in the day time for the scenery.

Other than enjoying the light wind blowing in my face while the ship was moving, the 45 minute trip to Vineyard Haven, a community in Tisbury, was pretty uneventful, and the drive to my friend's house was pretty short. I'm looking forward to my sightseeing tomorrow in Tisbury.
