Before heading to Connecticut for the day, we decided to give Lock 50 another chance by having brunch there after the so so dinner we had there yesterday.
This time, we got a Chai Tea,
An Almond Croissant
And the Crepe with lump crab, grilled scallions and cream cheese.
The croissant was not bad, although it still had some almond flavor which I am not a fan of. The chai tea was not my thing as always, while the crepe was pretty good, even with the scallions.
Overall though, not sure if this would be anyway near the top of my list in Worcester.
When we finally reached the Lyman Orchards in Middlefield CT, we realized we were at Apple Barrel, the grocery side of the place, which is a distance away from the actual fruit picking area and sunflower maze, the object of our journey out here today.
We found our way to the sunflower maze area, where the views from the top of the hill were amazing.
The maze itself was interesting as well with sunflowers poking out everywhere.
Unfortunately, with the intense heat going on today, we were just glad that we had trivia questions to guide us to the different checkpoints in the maze,
finally showing us the way out.
All that perspiration for a mere sticker.
From here, we decided to go pick squash and squash flowers. Again, it was a challenge to find the area, being at the apple picking area with no signs until we actually drove up to the counter.
Thankfully, the plants themselves were right nearby,
and we went right to picking huge zucchini,
squash
and zucchini flowers.
With our harvest, and a bottle of Sweet Apple Cider,
we headed into Meriden CT for lunch at Huxley's Bookmark Cafe, a diner with many books on the shelves.
we got the Ribeye Steak
and the Fried Filet of Sole (on a soft roll with tartar sauce, lettuce, coleslaw and french fries).
The best piece of steak I have had at a diner to date, tender and flavorful, which the sandwich was delicious as well with the fresh and crispy fish.
After our delicious lunch, we headed back into Middlefield to check out the Wadsworth Falls, located within the Wadsworth Falls State Park. A short walk from the parking lot at 25 Cherry Hill Road and I was there.
Beautiful falls, with people trying to cool off from the heat today under it.
On the way back, we went to check out another waterfall in Middletown CT, the Westfield Falls, located at around 373 Miner Street.
Not as nice as Wadsworth, but still good without a need to hike. With that, a day of fun in Connecticut was at an end, with the rain coming down hard and fast.
This blog is to serve as a record of my quest to visit every single town/city in Massachusetts and determine what are the great places to see/restaurants to eat at. Feel free to give me feedback on places that I might have missed out on, especially the great restaurants since I can only eat 3 times a day.
