October 18th 2025: Hiking Across Towns in Oxford and Douglas

 Today, after passing through Sutton,

Jacob Van Dyke Memorial Park,
5 Hough Road

Stevens Pond,
3 Parker Road

We went on a hike to find the Oxford Fire Tower in Oxford, where the path we took from the end of Tower Hill Road is shown below in pink.

The tower itself was off limits though.
From here, we decided to take the path to get to Grassy Pond in Douglas.

Pretty nice water body in the middle of nowhere.

August 2nd 2025: Water Bodies in Northbridge, Douglas and Uxbridge

 Today, we passed through Grafton,

Early Learning Center

Northbridge,

Meadow Pond,
306 Douglas Road

Uxbridge

Chocolog Pond,
611 Chocolog Road

Blissful Meadows Golf Club
and finally Douglas,

Fire Department

Hunt Pond, 5 College Street

Weeks Pond, 60 Depot Street
going on a short hike to find Chase Pond, where the path we took from the left of the South Douglas Cemetery at ~286 South Street is shown below in pink.
The view from south of the pond from the main trail was nothing to speak of,
but thankfully there was a side trail leading to the west side of the pond.
Our last stop of the day was at the Ice Cream Lady at 63 Main Street in town,
getting a cup of Chocolate Peanut Butter.
A good way to end a day of water bodies in several towns.

December 21st 2022: Hiking in Douglas MA and Thompson CT

As promised, I went on a hike at Douglas State Forest in Douglas today to check out Sassafras Pond. The path I took today is shown below in pink.

Nice views were had of Coopertown Brook
and Whitin Reservoir,

but the view of Sassafras Pond itself was not that great.
Next, I went to Thompson CT,
Skedgill Pond,
2 West Thompson Road

on a hike to find Lily Pond in Thompson CT, which I got to from Heritage Way Park. The path I took is shown below in pink.

Pretty good views of the pond once I got to it.

With that, an end to a day of hiking in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

December 20th 2022: Chamberlain Pond at Douglas State Forest, Douglas

Today, I went on a hike at Douglas State Forest in Douglas. This time around, the path I took to try to explore water bodies including Chamberlain Pond is shown below in pink.

Chamberlain Pond wasn't a water body I was expecting to get to see, but all the other water bodies in the areas I explored today were too far from the trail for any views to be had. Decent views of Chamberlain Pond though.
Overall, a pretty long hike, but I still have Sassafras Pond to check out next time, in the north of the area.

May 14th 2018: North Before Work, South After Work

I started out this morning in Sterling, going for a short hike to Fitch Basin from 47 Heywood Road.
Pretty nice water body, and I am glad I did not go the long way around on the Gaylord Trail.

My next hike was at the Heywood Reservoir area, where the path I took is shown below in pink.
Really nice reservoir to say the least.
Once again, glad I took the shortcut, although I had to park illegally.

My next hike was in the town of Lunenburg at the Cowdrey Nature Center, where the rough path I took is shown below in pink.
Except for partial views of the river and wetlands from the Vista High Trail,
nothing much else to see here,
and I was disoriented the whole time I was here.

From here, it was on to Groton for a hike northward on the Nashua River Rail Trail to get to Groton School Pond from 74 Smith Street.

Yet another nice water body to view from a paved walkway.
My final hike of the day was at Beaver Brook in Hollis NH, where I took the Potanipo Rail Trail to find the Great Meadow.
The wetland here is just alright though.
With that, I headed to work, and after work, I opted to go south this time, heading to Douglas for a hike along the Southern New England Trunkline Trail southwestwards from 32 South Street to look for Morse Pond.
Not bad a hike for a nice pond.

From here, I headed to the Uxbridge section of the trail, looking for Lee Pond northwestwards from 119 Aldrich Street.

I had to head down the slope on a steep trail to get to it, but it was worth it I guess.
A pretty good day of hiking, I must say, after a long stretch of disappointments in the northeast.

December 28th 2016: Northern Rhode Island

A day of exploring northern Rhode Island started out with breakfast in the town of Douglas,
East Douglas United Methodist Church
Post Office
at the Picket Fence, a pretty decent looking diner.

I got the Egg and Cheese with Pastrami Sandwich,

which was pretty good for a hungry guy.

From here, it was on into Burrillville RI,
Our Lady of Good Help Church
Burrillville Seventh Day Adventist Church
Sucker Pond, 31 Broncos Highway
Crystal Lake Golf Club
Nichols Pond, 219 Colwell Road
Tarkiln Pond

where I walked along the Harrisville Pascoag Pedestrian Path on the route shown below in pink from the end of Foster Road

To get to the Duck Pond,

Which wasn't anything much though.

Other places of interest in town were the Shrine of the Little Flower

And Slatersville Reservoir,

Which stretches into North Smithfield RI,

My next destination
Slatersville Mill
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church
Trout Brook Pond, 198 Tifft Road
Slatersville Congregational Church
Town Hall, 1 North Main Street
Forestdale Pond, 98 School Street
High Rock Apartments
The Beef Barn
Before a quick lunch at Casa Burrito,

A Mexican takeout place across the state border in Blackstone MA, where I got a Barbacoa (steamed lamb) Quesadilla,

Which was nothing to speak of.

From here, I moved into the town of Woonsocket RI,
Polish National Catholic Church of Our Savior
Woonsocket Depot Square
City Hall, 169 Main Street
St. Anthony's Church
Church of the Acts
Old Grove Street Elementary School
Mount St. Charles Academy
St. Agatha's Church
Armed Forces Park
Fire Department
Sylvestre Pond, 124 Cumberland Hill Road
Cass Park
St. Joseph Catholic Church
St. John the Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church

Visiting the Rhode Island Museum of Work and Culture.
Not too bad a museum about the rise and fall of mills in Woonsocket.

With that,  a day of exploring northern Rhode Island was at an end. Don't think I will be doing anything tomorrow due to the snow storm.
