where I got my lunch of a Kami-kazi Steak Sub (Steak, Savory Pepperoni, Sweet Italian Sausage, Hickory Smoked Bacon, Imported Ham, Tangy BBQ Sauce and Italian Provolone)

and Buffalo Wings from TC Lando's, a typical pizza  takeout chain.
The chicken was just average, although the sub was actually really good.

After work, I had tickets to go see the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam at the DCU Center in Worcester, so I decided to go grab dinner at Tacos Parilla Mexicana, a small Mexican restaurant at 138 Millbury Street serving pretty authentic stuff.

After looking at the menu, I decided to get 3 tacos, each stuffed with either pulled pork, beef steak or sausage,

and a shredded beef gordita, which is a sope that has been made into a burger like dish, with the 2 halves of the sope sandwiching the meat and vegetables in between. All this, for just 9 dollars.
After my cheap dinner, it was time to head to the DCU Center. I was able to find free parking relatively close by, and when I finally found my seat, I realized it was way high up, but actually at the very front, so I still got a great view of the arena below.

Before the start of the events, people started playing with remote control trucks in the middle of the arena.
Then came out the Quad bikes from Team New England in grey T-shirts and Team Pittsburgh in black to show us what racing around the arena would be like.
It was then finally time for the monster trucks to show themselves, making loud engine noises as they rumbled onto the arena floor. Grave Digger is apparently one of the most famous monster truck drivers, while Scooby Doo was an interesting looking truck in the shape of its name with the only woman driver in the crowd. She was cute too.
Hurricane Force, Iron Man and Blue Thunder
Crush Station, Grave Digger and Thrasher
Cool Bus and Scooby Doo
The first competition was the wheelie competition, in which the drivers compete to see who would be able to clear the obstacles better, with judges putting up numbers to rate the jumps. Grave Digger won this easily, although Scooby Doo was pretty close.

Next was another round of Quad Bike races pitting New England against Pittsburgh, which Pittsburgh won twice and New England once. The winner from the Pittsburgh side was a real asshole or acted like one, saying that New England sucked and drew loud boos from the crowd. The thing was , he was pretty good, and the second round when he was forced to start backwards as he was bullying other racers before the start of the race by pushing them across the start line with his bike before the race started, he still won the race in the end.
The last round when New England finally won, it was probably because the referee decided to disqualify him for making a nuisance of himself the second time around. I still can't tell whether it was all for show or not.

Next was the races between the monster trucks, done in a knockout fashion between the eight trucks.
The two favorites to win were obviously Scooby Doo and Grave Digger, but Grave Digger made a driving error in the semi-final and lost to Blue Thunder, while Scooby Doo hit one of the barriers while winning against Hurricane Force and was disqualified as a result.

In the end, Blue Thunder won the competition, to the displeasure of the crowd.

After the races, there was another segment which made the event a little more exciting, where 2 10-year old siblings on motorbikes rode round and round in a circular cage, defying gravity, and with each round, things got more difficult, with first the girl standing in the middle while the brother rode around, giving him high-fives as he went, then the stakes went up with 2 bikes in the cage, and subsequently 3 with the father joining in on the action. Not bad stuff really.

Finally, it was the free-style round for the monster trucks to show what they could do in the arena. By now, it was getting kinda old with all the trucks just jumping over cars. To say the least, Grave Digger somehow won this section again, although I felt Scooby Doo did a better job this time around.

With that, the event ended, and I headed home for the night, happy that I got to see what a monster truck derby is like, and I have decided that once is good enough.
