April 23rd 2016: A Day Spent in Southern Boston

We started off today with an avocado shake from Banh Mi Ba Le in the Dorchester area of Boston.

While waiting for my other half to be done with her stuff,  I took a short stroll around the Dorchester area of Boston, stopping at Borinquen Bakery and Cafe, a Cuban cafeteria style place at 112 Stoughton Street,  getting a Quesito, a cheese filled pastry.

Not bad actually.

For lunch, we headed nearby to Sea Breeze Mexican Grill, a cafeteria style place.

We got the Shrimp Mofongo (sautéed shrimp in lemon garlic butter sauce, with fried mashed green plantains fused with garlic herb sauce, served with small Salad).

Pretty flavorful, although it came in the form of a bowl, unlike most other Mofongo I have seen.

Our next stop was at Dot 2 Dot Cafe nearby, a breakfast place where we decided to just get drinks,

getting a Smoothie (with kale, kiwi, pineapple, cucumber)
and a Chai Tea.
The smoothie was not bad, although the tea was nothing special. I am not sure if I want to come back to try the food here.

Next, we went to check out the flowers at the Arnold Arboretum,

spotting a big turtle in the marsh here.
After our walk in the park, we headed to the Allston area, stopping at Pikaichi for some ramen, getting the Genmai-Cha (Brown Rice Tea),
the Spicy Chicken Don (marinated chicken, fresh spring mix with ginger dressing, boiled half egg, chilli mayo on top of bowl of white rice)
and the Jigoku Ramen (Homemade Spicy Soy sauce flavored Ramen served with custom made noodles, topped with tender shredded pork, nori seaweed special shrimp hot oil and scallions).
The tea was nothing special, but the rice was pretty tasty, though with not much chicken. Thankfully, the ramen was pretty delicious, better than a lot I have tried in the past.

We were still hungry after our meal, so we went to a pretty new Taiwanese place nearby, Dolphin Bay. This place serves pretty interesting Taiwanese street food, of which we tried the Beef Shank Stew
and the Oyster Pancake,
along with a Milk Pudding (with winter melon) for a drink.
Everything was pretty interesting, totally not what we were expecting. The stew wasn't a soup at all, but the sauce for the beef was pretty delicious. The pancake had hardly any egg in it, being mostly gooey flour, but flavorful all the same. It was interesting to have pudding in the drink as well. Overall, pretty good meals in the Allston area.
