April 17th 2016: Welcoming Spring in Eastern Massachusetts

We started out this morning with brunch at The Painted Burro in Somerville.

I have been here before, but not for brunch. This time, we got the El Montanero “Superbeasto”(2 fried eggs, chorizo con papas, pork charro beans, chicharron, fried plantain, burro rice, chipotle mayo, baja cream, crispy tortilla)

and the Chalupas (corn masa, griddle cakes, crispy squash blossoms, goat cheese, roasted jalapeño agave nectar).

The chalupas tasted just like pancakes, just better, while the beans and eggs were just scrumptious. Excellent meal I would come back for any day.

Next, we headed into downtown Boston, passing through the Quincy Market area

on the way to the Frost Ice Loft, which has totally changed its layout since the last time I was here.

I really miss that swan though. The Spiced Passion Soda (passion fruit juice, soda water) we got

tasted a little weird as well. Thankfully, my other half enjoyed her first experience here.

Our next stop was at Yocha in Quincy,

where we got the Sesame Pudding with Purple Rice.

Reminds me of home.

After our dessert, we headed into Hingham, taking a short hike from Scotland Street to the McKenna Marsh, the path of which is shown below in pink.
The marsh itself wasn't that impressive when we came to it though.

The next place we went to was the Weir River Farm, an animal farm to bring the kids to with nice views as it is on a hill,

Turkey Hill, which has even better views at the top which we went to next.

On to the town of Hull we went, where the Paragon Carousel happened to be open today, so we took the opportunity to have our first ride on one.

Unfortunately, due to our inexperience, we chose the horses that did not move at all. We should have known better as we were having a hard time getting onto the horses, as they did not have a step to assist with getting onto the horse like the mobile ones did.

Oh well.

Next, we visited a few other places in town,
Point Allerton Fire Control Tower,
40 Beacon Road
Old Our Lady of the Bay Catholic Church,
Highland Avenue and Main Street

Hull Public Library

Stony Beach,
Spring Street and Nantasket Avenue

St. Nicholas United Methodist Church

the highlights being Fort Revere Park, although the roads up there are pretty narrow and rundown,

and Windmill Point right on the tip of Hull,

where one can see Peddocks Island

and Georges Island.

At this point, we decided to call it a day for sightseeing, heading to Jake's Seafood, a very popular seafood place in town with  nice decor and seaside views.

We got the Manhattan Clam Chowder

and the Jake's Seafood Platter (fresh clams, fish, scallops and shrimp).

The clams in the soup were a little dry, although the fried seafood was not bad. Overall, a pretty good meal to end a pretty fun day.
