September 9th 2015: Dinner at Shanghai Moon, Medford

I went to have dinner with my friend at Shanghai Moon in Medford today. Before that, I grabbed some takeout for tomorrow's lunch from LaRosa's Sub Shop in Billerica, getting an Italian Cold Sub,

a Meat Lover's Pizza (Pe p p e r o n i , M e a t b a l l , S a u s a g e, B a c o n , H a m)
and a Pastrami Hot Sub.

I did not like the pizza at all, while the sub were just alright.

The Chinese Japanese restaurant itself used to be Asia Palace, and the decor was pretty much the same. The menu was somewhat similar too, with both Chinese and Japanese options. The deal I had only applied to the Japanese food, so we got the Soft Shell Crab,

the Scallop Hokkaiyaki,
the Vegetarian Special (Avocado, cucumber, yamagobo, takuan with inari and shredded seaweed) Roll
and the Baked Salmon Roll (Crabmeat and avocado covered with a bed of baked salmon, crunchy and sweet potato on top).

The Soft Shell Crab was really disappointing, being bland and barely crispy. The scallops were full of mayo and not bad, but the rolls were actually pretty good, especially the vegetarian one which was surprisingly flavorful, as was the salmon and its crispy sweet potato strips. Overall though, it still looks like a typical Americanised Chinese restaurant with typical Chinese Japanese food on the menu.
