May 15th 2015: Tibetan Dinner at Rangzen Restaurant, Cambridge

Today after work, I went with my friend to try some Tibetan food at Rangzen Restaurant in Cambridge. In order to do that, we had to park in the H-Mart parking lot, and while passing through the supermarket, we decided to get an Egg Tart from Paris Baguette. Really good as always.

The restaurant itself is a small place with decent ethnic decor, with lots of customers.

For drinks, we got the Mango Lassi
and the Poecha (Traditional Tibetian tea blended with butter, milk and lightly salted).
My friend did not like that the tea was salty, although the lassi was pretty good.

For food, we got the Thunlam Tosoe (Combination of SHOGO NUMTAK (Mashed potato with cilantro & ginger, rolled in bread and fried. DULUMA NUMTAK (Thinly sliced eggplant dipped in chick pea batter and fried), TSEL NUMTAK (Shredded mixed vegetables with ginger, garlic & cilantro dipped in chick pea batter and fried) (SHAMO NUMTAK (Mushroom with mashed chickpeas, cilantro, ginger, onion rolled in bread & fried)) appetizer,
and the Langsha Momo (Handmade minced beef dumplings mixed with spinach, cabbage, ginger, garlic & cilantro),
which came with a Temma Soup  (slowly cooked with fresh tomatoes, onion, ginger, garlic & herbs then sprinkled with cilantro & lemon) on the side.
Of the fried stuff, the eggplant and the shredded vegetables were not bad, although the other 2 were way too filling. The skin for the momos were a little on the thick side, although the soup was pretty tasty.

Overall, better than the experience I had in Northampton, but still not a cuisine I would come back to often.

After dinner, we walked around Central Square for a bit, visiting MIT for a bit and walking along the Charles River before heading to Toscanini's for dessert. We got the Salty Saffron and Mixed Berry Sorbet flavors,
the saffron tasting a little weird, and the sorbet being a little on the sour side. A disappointment this time. At least the night in Cambridge was fun. Looking forward to the Great New England Air Show tomorrow.
