Today after work, I went with my friend for a meetup event at
Highball Lounge, a pretty nice bar restaurant located right beside the
Nine Zero Hotel in downtown Boston.
Having seen the rubber duckie in drink pictures from the place, I decided to get the Duckie Rose
(blend of fortified wine and a special friend), while my friend got the POG Island (Highball spiced rum and carbonated (passion fruit, orange, guava).
Pretty good drinks, considering I don't really like alcohol.
For food, we got the Korean Fried Chicken Nuggets (pickled daikon), which had been recommended for this place,
the Truffled Edamame Dumplings (sake mirin sauce)
and the
Chickpea Fries (harissa aioli).
I really liked the seasoned fries, followed by the dumplings, mainly because of the mirin sauce. The chicken was actually a little disappointing, the chicken not being that crispy, and the Korean sauce being a little strong. Overall, a pretty nice place to come to, especially with the board games stocked here. The portions are pretty small though, and we were still hungry when we decided to leave, not wanting to join the meetup crowd.
We headed next to Griddlers Burgers and Dogs, a fast food joint nearby for a quick bite, getting the Sweet Potato Tots,
the Milk Chocolate Covered Bacon
and the Southwestern Veggie Griddler (Corn, Black Beans, Peas, Sweet Peppers, and Chipotle-Adobo).
The bacon was actually pretty tasty with a nice combination of salty and sweet. The tots were crispy and interesting, though a little on the salty side. The vegetarian patty was not bad either. Overall, just somewhat typical fast food though, although for a pretty cheap price.
My friend had a craving for some crushed ice dessert from Penang at this point, so off we went. When we sat down, however, we were told that we had to order a minimum of 8 dollars worth of food per person, so besides the ABC (shaved ice with red bean, corn, plum seeds, jelly, red rose syrup and milk),
we also got their signature Roti Canai and Peanut Pancake.
The ice dessert looked a little disappointing, but was still pretty good, as was the pancake, which had corn in it as well.
With that, our evening of eating out came to an end.
