April 16th 2013: Dinner at Pho 99, Malden

This morning, before heading into Malden to do food truck stuff, I decided to check out a few places in Boston
Brighton Common,
Chestnut Hill Avenue and  Academy Hill Road
Engine House Studios
Norman Leventhal Park

and Cambridge,
Northpoint Common,
Northpoint Boulevard and East Street

including the Winnie the Pooh Stump House, located outside the Science Center on the Harvard University campus. I almost gave up trying to find it, but decided to persevere a bit more and walk around the entire building, and there out was, on the side furthest away from the road.

The Harvard Stadium which was covered the last time I visited it was finally uncovered for spring as well.

After we were done doing food truck for the day, my friend and I decided to grab dinner at Pho 99 at 99 Pleasant Street in Malden, a typical Vietnamese restaurant as you probably can already guess just by looking at the name of the place. What was interesting about the place was that the owners were all Chinese, as were the customers. After looking at the menu, we decided to get the Pork Skin Fresh Spring Rolls,

the Tofu and Diced Spareribs in Black Bean Sauce,

and the House Special Steamed Vermicelli Patties (Banh Hoi Bun Mau, with grilled shrimp, sugar cane shrimp cake, beef and pork).

The spring rolls were just okay, not being to my taste, while the other 2 dishes were actually really good. My friend and I had a fun time trying to figure out how to eat the rice paper provided with the vermicelli patty dish, dipping the rice paper into water to soften it, then using it to wrap the meat and sauce. Simply delicious.

With that, we called it a day, and I drove all the way home, only to have to come all the way back tomorrow.
