August 27th 2012: My First Red Sox Game in Boston

I had won a company raffle for 2 tickets to today's Red Sox baseball game against the Kansas City Royals. My friend who is a chef does not work on Mondays, so he was the only person I could ask to go to the game, and thankfully he said yes, although he is not really a big fan of baseball, not knowing many of the rules of the game either.

Before picking him up to go to the game, I decided to head to the Mystic River Reservation in Medford, where I parked at the Meadow Glen Mall.

I headed into the western side of the reservation first, at the Mystic Riverbend Park. There weren't many good views of the river here, however.

Heading back to the Mystic Valley Parkway bridge, I passed under it to head to the Torbert MacDonald Park, where there was an observation platform with decent views of the surroundings.

It was time to pick my friend up, so I headed back to my car. After picking him up, we decided to head to BonChon Chicken in Allston, Boston, which is famous for its Korean fried chicken, for lunch.
Not only was the ambience of the place pretty good, so was the food we ordered. My friend got the Bulgogi Stew, while I got the Hwe Dup Bap (rice with raw fish and Korean spicy sauce), and several Soy Garlic Chicken Wings

I thought the chicken wings were really good, although my friend said the ones in New York were better. The Hwe Dup Bap was definitely a much better version of the Japanese Chiraishi, while the Bulgogi Stew was delicious as well.

After lunch, we drove toward Fenway Park, where I decided to park in a 2 hour parking zone in Brookline, hoping that t would not be checked.

As we walked toward the stadium, the crowds of people heading to the Monday afternoon game soon became apparent.

When we finally got into the stadium, we took quite a long time to find our seats due to the complicated seat numbering. Our seats were really good though, being really close to the field with a good view of the main triangle, right near the foul pole on the other side from the Green Monster.

Unfortunately, today was really sunny, so we were soon sweltering under the heat, only getting relief when the sun was blocked by clouds. Pictures I took of the game, which thankfully the Red Sox won, follow.

When we finally got back to my car, I realized that the police had been really diligent, and I had gotten a $30 ticket. What luck.

We did not really know what to do after this, so we decided to drive into Cambridge for a bit. As it so happened, I managed to find parking right outside Moksa, a Japanese bar restaurant on Massachusetts Avenue.

Sitting in the nice bar area, I decided to get the Street Style Ramen, with Barbecued Pork and 5 Minute Egg, while my friend ordered 3 appetizers, namely the Japanese Meatballs with teriyaki glaze and wasabi aioli, Thai Green Papaya Salad with fresh herbs and peanuts, and the Spicy Tuna Dumplings with guacamole and mango chilli salsa.

Although the papaya salad was a little too sour for me, the rest of the dishes were really good, especially the barbecued pork in my ramen.

After our meal, we headed to the Kendall Square Cinema to watch the documentary "The Imposter". Along the way, we passed by several interesting places.
Central Square Theater
Union Baptist Church

Jill Brown Rhone Park,
Main Street and Massachusetts Avenue
Lafayette Square Fire Station

Portland Street and Hampshire Street
Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts

The cinema itself is pretty nice looking, as you can see below.
After the movie, which was okay I guess as it was a documentary about a serial impostor pretending to be a missing child in many countries, we decided to call it a day. Back to work tomorrow. Oh well. I had a great time this 4 day weekend.
